and globes and maps are all around me now
Nothing much has been happening in the last few days. I’ve been a bit distracted from going away with catching up with friends. Keep seeing people I’ve already said the big goodbye to which is awkward. I continue to be very bad at goodbyes the script is generally as follows:
Them: Goodbye have a great time, I know it will be such a great experience
Me: Ah, yeah I hope so. Thanks. Have a great year at [Uni/School/Work]
Awkward silence, sometimes awkward hug, followed by strange silence.
Me: Bye then
I think I need to work on my technique.
Alice rang me yesterday which was supercool. Talking to her made me realise how much I miss all the THIMUN people. I have been forced to show several lots of people my photos of Europe which is bad when I can’t really remember what everything is. Example: So here’s a big and probably old church/cathedral in Venice. Happily I am taking a Sheraton shoeshine sponge and a Hilton pen and sewing kit to Vietnam. People keep asking what my favourite thing was and I simply cannot think of what that was. It was all fantastic.
So, Vietnam. Have just checked the weather in Ho Chi Minh (where I will be for at least the first five days) and it’s supposed to be 33 degrees, which really isn’t that hot apart from I haven’t been in that kind of heat since last December, with Tassie’s dodgy summer which I basically seem to have missed while in Europe. It’s more reasonable in Hanoi (where I will be living). I have been looking through the information sent to me and realising that I should have actually read it a while ago. For instance, it is suggested we write to our schools/unis before arrival, oups. Also, it gives some information about where I will be living (this is in fact quite a relief as we have separate rooms, cooking facilities and a staff member living with us - although this may have changed). I can’t seem to find information about when we’re leaving Ho Chi Minh for Hanoi or what our five day course will be like but I suppose that will become apparent soon enough.
I have (of course) been thinking about what I will miss while I’m away. I suppose it will mostly be the kind of life I live, the whole package. The radio stations I listen to (NewsRadio, JJJ), the shows I watch on TV, the food I eat, the people I talk to. I suppose all these things can be accessed but it wont be the same. I’m also really going to miss my dogs, the can’t use MSN or the telephone.
I have been working out which music I’m going to take. Currently it’s: Jack Johnson (On and On), The Beatles (Sgt Pepper), Cat Empire, John Lennon, Joni Mitchell (Blue), Franz Ferdinand, Missy Higgins, Good Charlotte (cringe), Death Cab For Cutie and Postal Service combination, The Whitlams, Bernard Fanning (plus other Aussie stuff), The Libertines and four mix cds. Yes, I am a music nerd. If only my computer would stop being horrible I could finish burning everything. Amusingly my father added Bing Crosby to my list of cds to burn.
Tonight I am making dinner and Angie is coming around which will be nice (her coming around, I guarantee nothing about the food). Then I will leave here at 9ish to catch my 10:50 flight to Melbourne. I will then spend the afternoon in Melbourne with friends of the family. My flight leaves at 12:50 (the next morning). Eeek.
Your musical taste is, as always, impecible. And there are occasions when Good Charlotte is required, at least one of which you can be guaranteed in six months.
